Feed:
Feed is one of the most highly discussed topics for goats. When researching goats, this was the most intimidating part about getting goats for us.

Our girls receive:
-
Free choice 50/50 mix of orchard hay and alfalfa.
-
Free choice minerals.
-
Girls in milk also receive grain as a 50/50 mix of Show Goat Klassie Milk (sweet feed) and Purina Goat Chow (unsweetened feed). DO NOT feed grain to male goats, discussed more in detail later.
-
Sparingly fruits, vegetables, animal crackers, and fig newtons as treats.

Things to have on hand
In addition to food, clothing, and shelter, there are other things you should have on hand to help care for your goats. This is a partial list of things you will use most often and should have ready prior to bringing goats home:

-
Thermometer
-
Famacha chart - learn about famacha here
-
Copper bolus for the age and size of your goat
-
Udder balm - if your goat is or will be in milk
-
Selenium + Vitamin E, such as this
-
California Mastitis Kit - if your goat is or will be in milk
-
A variety of sizes of drenchers
-
A variety of sizes of needles and syringes - I prefer my needles and syringes to be luer lock to prevent separation
